In Vero Beach, culture abounds with world class shows, celebrity entertainment, and diverse exhibitions.

 

The Vero Beach Museum of Art features tours, lectures, film studies series, special events and art classes. The Vero Beach Art Club, located at the museum, sponsors art shows and exhibitions throughout the year. Riverside Theatre hosts a variety of shows and events for music and theatre lovers alike. From the celebrity special events and distinguished lecture series to the local events and programs, there is something for everyone. The Riverside Children's Theatre hosts children's productions throughout the year. The Vero Beach Theatre Guild presents a season long series of stage productions.

 

From open air concerts to the Vero Beach Opera, music lovers will enjoy the choices offered year round. The Vero Beach Choral Society, Atlantic Classical Orchestra, Indian River Symphonic Association and Treasure Coast Jazz Society, among others perform locally throughout the year. A variety of open air performances are held in area parks as well as on Vero's Ocean Drive during the Sunset Saturday Night Concert Series, occurring the 2nd Saturday of each month.

 

History buffs will want to visit the Indian River Citrus Museum. On display are photographs and memorabilia from early pioneers who established the area's citrus industry. The Indian River County Historical Society Museum also features memorabilia of the area's history. Treasure hunters will enjoy a visit to the McLarty and Mel Fisher Treasure Museums where artifacts from the Atocha and the 1715 Fleet are showcased.

 

Indian River LagoonThe Environmental Learning Center helps visitors get back in touch with their natural surroundings. Children and adults can enjoy canoe excursions, hiking trails and butterfly gardens as well as numerous other activities. For an educational experience, hands on labs are offered.

 

Harbor Branch at Florida Atlantic University, just south of Vero Beach, is one of the world's leading non-profit oceanographic organizations dedicated to the exploration of the earth's oceans, estuaries and coastal areas. Public programs and lectures are offered as well as wildlife and lagoon boat tours and tours of the campus.

 

McKee Botanical Garden, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is an 18 acre sub topical garden. Self guided and pre-arranged tours are available.

With an average balmy 74 degree temperature, recreational activities in Vero Beach and the surrounding areas abound. Days can be comfortably spent enjoying the great outdoors. By land, river or sea, outdoor activities in Vero Beach run the gamut.
 

Dolphins in the Indian River

The Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway provide a playground to every water sport imaginable. Vero offers boating, fishing, dolphin watching, kayaking, jet skiing, diving and snorkeling along its 26 miles of unspoiled beaches. Some of the best surfing and kite boarding on the East Coast and miles of sandy beaches provide hours of fun in the sun.

 

Sea Turtles in the Indian RiverGolf and tennis facilities are readily accessible with numerous private and public clubs to choose from. Hiking, walking and cycling can be enjoyed at many locations throughout the area including several wildlife preserves and parks. Residents who are environmentally-minded will enjoy a variety of nature preserves, wildlife refuges and educational centers that the Vero Beach area has to offer. The Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge offers sea turtle watch programs by reservation in June and July.
